Aussies are now taking every opportunity to get away for a quick holiday and explore their own backyard, so regional hidden gems like Bright are no longer the well-kept secret they once were. The secret is well and truly out and Bright and surrounding townships are seeing visitors all year around, attracting return holiday makers and new visitors, keen to discover what the Victorian High Country has on offer.
Lucky for you, and us, Bright has plenty going on all year around, and if there isn’t anything scheduled on the calendar, you’d still be hard pressed to run out of things to do while being immersed in the epicentre of our incredible Victorian Alpine High Country.
Renowned as a cyclist’s mecca, outdoor adventurists playground, food & wine paradise and a family holiday favourite, Bright really has something for everyone in every season.
So, we have taken it upon ourselves to do a little gold digging and see what new experiences or temptations we could unearth for you to try on your next holiday to our regional wonderland. Here’s our latest update to help you decide what to do in Bright on your next getaway.
FOOD FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD
First and foremost, let’s look at the latest culinary additions to our ever-growing selection of eateries. If you feel like taking the easy path and staying at home and letting someone else do all the hard work, why not try out one of Fiddle Leaf Platters incredible selection. Lilly of Fiddle Leaf Platters, has spent her whole life growing up in the area and says she has always had a passion for creating cheese boards for friends and family and felt it was time to extend this to other people.
“We at Fiddle Leaf believe platters are more than just cheese & crackers,
it’s a social gathering on a plate, from cheese & wine to fruit & chocolate.”
All of the biodegradable grazing boxes are full of fresh, locally sourced produce with boxes ranging in sizes to suit every occasion. Each box is loaded with all the essentials, so you get to spend more time with your family and friends rather than the kitchen. Visit here for more info
Another treat, designed to nourish all the senses, is the gorgeous 5 Acres Bar & Kitchen, which recently opened in Wandiligong where the old Wandi Maze used to be. 5 Acres is tucked away in the quiet, heritage listed town of Wandiligong, is open five days a week and seven days through school holidays, offering lunch from their a la carte menu, grazing boards and platters. You can get cosy on a rug in the beautiful gardens whilst sipping on cocktails and enjoying a grazing platter or enjoy a glass of wine and serene dining experience in the Rotunda dining room. Basically, there is something for everyone.
FOR THE ADVENTUROUS IN SPIRIT
Alpine Expeditions latest experience on offer is the Pedal to Picnic tour. They’ve teamed up with Nightingale Bros and 5acres, to provide couples with the perfect romantic day out. Pedal to Picnic is an all-inclusive day, exploring beautiful Wandiligong while tasting and visiting the local businesses. You ride the stunning Murray to Mountain Rail Trail from Bright on electric bikes following the beautiful Morses Creek. There are a number of pit stops along the way to pick up a couple of delicious Alpine Ciders at Nightingale’s Alpine Produce, a scrumptious cheese board made by 5acres and then on to a “secret” spot where you get to enjoy all the goodies you’ve picked up along the way.
Hedonistic Hiking have a pretty special experience lined up for the more energetic traveller with their High Plains and River Valley 7 Day Hike. This hike explores our picturesque little township of Bright and the wild mountain scenery of the famous ski village at Falls Creek. The 7-day hike blends a great passion for hiking with the very best food and wine of north east Victoria. A definite highlight is the foraging experience and pasta making class with one of the region’s best loved Italian chefs, our very own, Patrizia Simone.

And last but not least how about taking some Art Classes while you’re up on your next mini break. Samantha Badrock learned how to draw professionally from her grandmother who was a professional artist for over 6 decades. Samantha has always found inspiration from her grandmother’s artistic skills and her ability to work professionally as an artist. Art Classes are now on offer every Wednesday and Thursday! Wednesdays are focusing on how to draw animals at Wild Thyme Cafe and on Thursday classes will be taking inspiration from the surrounds at Tatanka Gardens to learn to draw plants.
