We’re often asked what makes a “local” accommodation business different from an app. The honest answer is the stuff that has nothing to do with booking a house at all.
When you’re part of a small mountain community, you turn up. You sponsor the kids’ team, you chip in for the festival, you help keep the trail open. We’ve been doing that in Bright and surrounds for years, quietly and because it matters to us, not because it makes a good headline. But since people keep asking, here’s a look at the clubs, trails and events we’re proud to get behind, and more importantly, why.
The trail: “Up and At’em” at Mystic
If you’ve ridden at Mystic Mountain Bike Park, you’ll know it’s one of the best in the country, and a big reason riders come to Bright at all. We sponsor a trail up there called “Up and At’em,” and our contribution goes towards the upkeep and maintenance that keeps the park running and safe.
It’s a natural fit. A lot of our guests come to ride, and many of our homes are cycle-friendly with somewhere secure to keep the bikes. Helping look after the trails our visitors love felt like the least we could do. You can base yourself close to the action in one of our cycle-friendly Bright homes and roll almost straight onto the mountain.
The club: Myrtleford Savoy Soccer Club
We’ve proudly sponsored the Myrtleford Savoy Soccer Club for many years now. There’s no clever marketing angle here. Community sport is part of the glue that holds a region like ours together, giving kids something to do, families a reason to gather on a weekend, and the wider valley a sense of belonging. As business owners in the region, we think helping keep that going is simply part of the job.
The events that make Bright, Bright
Part of what makes this such a special place to visit is the calendar. There’s nearly always something on, and behind many of those events are local sponsors keeping ticket prices down and gates open. We’re glad to be one of them. A few we’re especially proud to support:
- Bright Festival of Photography — we’re the festival’s official accommodation partner, helping visiting photographers find the right place to stay while they shoot the High Country.
- Darker Days — Bright Brewery’s brilliant mid-winter celebration of beer, fire and live music, and proof that winter here is worth travelling for.
- Tour of Bright — a fixture on the Australian cycling calendar and a huge weekend for the town.
- Bright Twilight Tastings – Run by the Bright Chamber of Commerce for which we are a member, this annual event is fabulous coming together of community and local produce.
- Harrietville Half Marathon — a spectacular run through the mountains that also raises money for Harrietville Primary School.
- Wandi Nut Festival — a much-loved celebration over in nearby Wandiligong, and exactly the kind of quirky local event that gives this valley its character.
We’ve deliberately not listed dates here, because they move around each year and we’d rather point you to the real thing. And if you’re planning around a particular event, our team knows exactly which homes sit within easy walking distance of the action.
Why a holiday business bothers with all this
It would be easier not to. Sponsorships and partnerships cost money and time, and a guest booking a weekend away doesn’t strictly need to know about the local soccer team.
But we don’t see ourselves as just a business that happens to be in Bright. We live here, our team lives here, and the health of this community is the health of the place our guests travel so far to enjoy. A thriving town with good trails, strong clubs and a full events calendar is a better place to visit, and a much better place to live.
That same thinking runs right through how we operate, from the local producers we stock and the plant-based products we use, to the trees we plant with 15 Trees with every booking. It’s also why being named the 2026 STRive winner for Sustainability and Community Impact meant so much. It’s recognition of a way of doing things we believed in long before there was an award for it.
