Alpine Valley Getaways offers over 40 pet-friendly accommodation options in Bright and the surrounding towns of Harrietville, Porepunkah and Wandiligong. What’s more, many of the local businesses, including cafes, restaurants, pubs & breweries – allow you to bring your precious pet with you.
Parks are also plentiful, giving your dog ample opportunities to stretch their legs (and yours!) or you could take your dog for a swim in the pristine Ovens River, which flows from Harrietville through Bright and Porepunkah and beyond – your pet will love you for it!
For the more adventurous hound and owner, another favourite pet activity in Bright is the hike up to Apex Lookout – this is located in State Forest and rewards you with a gorgeous aerial view of Bright and further up the valley. Dogs on a lead are welcome along the track which leaves from Bright, just a few kilometres up the Mount Porepunkah Road.
Your pet can even get the chance to frolic in the snow in the winter months at nearby Dinner Plain, a small Alpine village located near Mount Hotham, this is rare treat for most dogs and their owners as it is. Dogs must be registered with your local council and have a current registration tag on them and must be kept on a lead at all times unless in the designated lead free area.
Note that there is a fee to enter Mount Hotham Alpine Resort, however this fee doesn’t apply if you’re heading directly to Dinner Plain. Bare in mind dogs aren’t permitted at Mount Hotham & remember it’s compulsory to carry snow chains if you’re driving during winter.

When staying at any of our pet-friendly properties in Bright, all we ask is that you don’t leave your dog unattended inside, and that they stay off carpeted areas and rugs, couches, beds and any furnishings. There’s also a maximum of two dogs allowed per property.
